House District 26A
Candidates:
- Connie Ruth (retiring) - R (Campaign Finance Bd.)
- Kory Kath - DFL (Campaign Finance Bd.) (Elected)
- Thomas Kuntz- R (Campaign Finance Bd.)
This mainly rural district has a large industrial park. The closing of the University of Minnesota, Waseca campus in 1990 had a huge impact on that community. However, the facility now houses a prison and employs more than 250 people at good wages. Legend has it there was a Princess Owatonna who was healed of an illness by drinking from the springs daily. Her statute stands in Mineral Springs Park. Politically, this has long been GOP turf.
