100% suburban. Eden Prairie got its name in 1853 from a New York woman who remarked that the prairie above the bluffs of the Minnesota River looked like the Garden of Eden. Today, Eden Prairie is one of the fastest-growing communities in the state. Much of the housing stock is new, and many other townhouse, condominium and other building projects are still on the drawing boards. There is also significant commercial activity - a number of major companies are headquartered here. Eden Prairie prides itself on its unique zoning plans, designed to use and preserve the area's natural resources while at the same time encouraging business and industry. Eden Prairie serves as a hub for technology start-ups in the Twin Cities. Politically, this is a staunch Republican district.
