100% suburban. Plymouth, a community of 69,000 people, can trace its origins back to the pre-Colombian period, 1400-1500 AD. The original inhabitants were the Dakota whose encampment was located at the northern end of Medicine Lake. Medicine Lake comes from the Native American word "Mdewakan," meaning "Lake of the Spirit." It was so named by the Dakota after a warrior overturned his canoe and his body was never found. There are many key highways that run through Plymouth, making the city accessible for residents and commuters. Major employers in the district include the insurance, publishing, and telecommunications industries. Politically, this is Republican turf.
