Palestine salon

Subject: Palestine/salon 7.10 6:30pm
Tuesday, July 10, the guest will be M.K. Davis. Ms. Davis spent last
winter in Palestine working w/Palestine Solidarity Project and works
locally w/ Jews For An End to the Occupation (JFAETTO). She will talk
about the smaller, less discussed ways in which the Occupation affects
peoples' lives and the Palestinian idea of "Sumoud" or steadfastness. MK
will also offer a critique of the ways in which the mainstream anti-war
movement discusses the issue. I heard M K speak recently as she read from
her journal she kept while in Gaza. It was quite emotional and uplifting
at the same time. Hope you can come to hear her stories.

The report will focus on RNC preparations, but also be a chance to hear about the growing anti-war movement around the U.S.

Few public intellectuals in recent decades have made as many importantand varied contributions as William Kristol.
He served as chief of staff to Education Secretary Bill Bennett during the Reagan administration, and then again to Vice President Dan Quayle during the first Bush administration.
As head of the Project for the Republican Future, he led the way in defeating the Clinton administration's government-laden health care plan (a.k.a. "HillaryCare") when many on the right thought the cause was lost. He then was a key strategist in enormous conservative victories in 1994.
A year later, in 1995, he was the founding editor of The Weekly Standard, which overnight became a remarkably influential voice. It's a job he still holds.
And among television's "talking heads" (the term is used affectionately), he is one of the most incisive, as witness his regular appearances on "FOX News Sunday."
A Harvard-trained political scientist, Dr. Kristol's career surely would have taken a more constrained route if, as a newly minted academic, he had accepted an offer to teach at the University of Minnesota. With all due respect to the "U," the nation has been well-served by his branching out.
Bill Kristol keynoted American Experiment's 1996 Annual Dinner. Almost a dozen years later, we will be honored to welcome him back to keynote our 2007 Fall Briefing, when he talks about "The New World."
