Our June meetup will be Tuesday June 5 at Munkabeans.
Organizer:
Bill Sorem http://democrat.meetup.com/1094/members/771158/
Steve Kelley, former state senator from district 44, candidate for Governor and Attorney General, one of the state's experts in education and now a senior fellow at the Humphrey Institute has agreed to meet with us and talk about grass roots politics. Steve has a wealth of experience about politics in Minnesota. Laurie and I were proud to be Kelley delegates at the last DFL state convention. Who knows what might have been, we could have had a governor on our side.
Please join us for a very interesting meeting.

Anti-War Committee Report from the US Social Forum
Tuesday 7/10 @ 7pm @ Mayday Books, 301 Cedar Ave S, Mpls.
At the end of June, AWC member, Jess Sundin, will attend the US Social Forum in Atlanta, Georgia. While there, she will join with other TC activists, as well as organizers from NYC (which protested the RNC in 2004), to lead a workshop where folks from around the country can talk about what to expect at the RNC and how to get involved. The report will focus on RNC preparations, but also be a chance to hear about the growing anti-war movement around the U.S.

Historian Barbara Dafoe Whitehead is credited with drawing a very useful distinction between "conference table conversations" and "kitchen table conversations." In severe shorthand, the former focus mostly on politics and policies, while the latter expand to include critical questions of culture, values, faith, and personal responsibility.
Please join us for a kitchen table conversation at which three of Minneapolis' most insightful leaders talk deeply about their city, especially about its young people, many of whom are flying, but far too many of whom are drowning.
Lunch will be served, of course.

Actual plans for the June 26 Links/Meetup session:
(I did it again - the automated message went out before I put in the actual details for the next event!)
On Tuesday evening June 26 at 7 pm at the Davanni's in Edina, Dane Smith, President of Growth and Justice will speak on how to make Minnesota's tax system more fair and more supportive of economic growth. He will also give a review of the recently ended state legislative session.
Dane Smith is the new president of the Minnesota policy research think tank ?Growth and Justice?. His presentation will describe the Invest for Real Prosperity campaign which is a strategy for a more prosperous, just and sustainable Minnesota . He succeeds founder and executive Joel Kramer, who now serves as chair of the board.
Mr. Smith recently concluded a 30-year career as a reporter for the Star Tribune and the Pioneer Press, where he developed a solid reputation writing about state, local and federal government and politics for Minnesota?s two largest newspapers.
He is also co-author of the book, ?Professor Wellstone Goes to Washington: The Inside Story of a grassroots U.S. Senate Campaign.? And, he serves as an adjunct faculty member at Inver Hills Community College.
Tax fairness and the issues surrounding government's proper role in society were among Dane?s favorite issues as a reporter, and he has particular expertise in these areas. He understands the importance of smart public-sector investment that can help all Minnesotans improve their lives and strengthen the state?s economy.
As usual, our Links/Meetup session will be on the 4th Tuesday, at 7 pm at Davanni's in Edina.
Sponsored by the Edina\West Bloomington Democrats. For further information, contact Chuck Prentice
